Solar Cylinders

Using free heat from the sun, a solar water heating system works alongside conventional water heaters to provide domestic hot water.  The solar thermal system warms the water in a hot water cylinder and a conventional boiler or immersion heater is then used to further heat the water, or supply hot water when solar energy is unavailable. We stock a range of Solar cylinders from suppliers including Albion, Dimplex and MaxiPod.

Renewables input cylindersDesigned for use with renewable energy technologies, such as solar thermal panels and air source heat pumps, the range of cylinders from Albion feature purpose-designed coils allowing maximum heat transfer of renewable energy into the stored water. They are an efficient and environmentally friendly way of providing Domestic Hot Water and cutting your energy bills.

The cylinders are manufacture from either copper - suitable for open vented or unvented systems, or Duplex stainless steel - suitable for unvented systems only. Available in a wide range of models and capacities they are suitable for both domestic and commercial applications. Buffer tanks to provide smother and uninterrupted operation of a heat pump are also available. Renewables input cylinders and buffer tanks can be supplied as part of the complete renewable package and are perfect partner for other products from Kingspan Solar portfolio - Kingspan Solar flat plat panels, Thermomax vacuum tube collectors and Aeromax Air Source Heat Pumps.


dimplex solar cylinderDimplex solar cylinders are available with single coil and dual immersions for direct electric systems or dual coils for use with a secondary heat source (such as a boiler). Sizes available:

Drawing of MaxiPod systemMaxiPod Thermal Storage Systems work by reversing the function of the Primary (Heating) and Secondary (Domestic) waters. The Primary water is stored in the cylinder and heated by either a boiler or immersion heaters. When heated by a boiler, the water can also be pumped around the radiators to provide space heating. The Secondary water comes directly from the mains and passes through a specially designed heat exchanger which draws heat from the MaxiPod. This water then passes through a thermostatic mixing valve which blends it to the correct temperature before it reaches the taps.
