The Octabuild Builders Merchant of the Year Awards Northern Ireland was held in Belfast’s Stormont Hotel last Thursday 8th March before an audience of almost 200 people representing the merchant and building industry. Pictured receiving their award from Michael O' Donohoe, Octabuild Chairman are Alan Shiells and Tom Gray of Haldane Fisher.

Octabuild have been honouring and gaining public acknowledgement for the best in the builders merchant trade since 1984 in the Republic of Ireland and this is the second year the awards have been expanded to Northern Ireland. Octabuild is made up of a group of Irish building material manufacturers: Evode Ltd., Gyproc, ICI Dulux Ltd., Irish Cement Ltd., Sanbra Fyffe Ltd., Tegral Ltd., Kingspan Insulation and Wavin Ireland Ltd. Each Octabuild company is committed to providing an efficient and reliable service to builders merchants.

Each merchant is judged on Customer Service, Merchandising, Housekeeping, Health & Safety and Management. We are delighted to announce that Haldane Fisher won an award for our Newry branch in the Heavy Goods category.

The judges said that this site was selected for its large volume of heavy goods, which were very well managed on a 14 acre site. Haldane Fisher (Newry) has been providing a service to the construction industry for the past 65 years.

The benefits to the merchants who have participated have been seen in terms of staff motivation and incentive, improved standards and customer service. These awards continue to be a very important element in the Irish builders merchant sector.
